After growing up in Colombia, Dr. JC Alvarez served as a physician to underserved communities that had little to no access to healthcare in Colombia, before studying stem cell research in Spain, where he earned his PhD.

His determination to conquer the American Dream came to fruition when he came to Boston for an English course in the year 2000. This led to a job at Harvard University, where he conducted research in his field.

At the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Dr. JC Alvarez joined the plastic surgery department where his research inspired him to pursue plastic surgery full time.
He created a successful practice in Pittsburgh after 7 years of diligent training, and because of his attention to detail and passion to bring desired results to every patient, he has since become one of the best-reviewed plastic surgeons in the area.
